President's Message    -  May 2003

Happy New Year and welcome back!

  Chapter President Tej Jhamb

by Tej Jhamb

Greetings.  Let us leave the snow and ice storms behind us.  Let us welcome spring.  It is time for renewal. It is time for rejuvenation. It is time for new thinking.  And it is time to bring some sunshine in our lives by growing and developing new ideas as Industrial Engineers.

Industrial Engineers are the driving force behind the corporations, whose mission is to increase profitability by eliminating waste, whether it is system related or workflow related.

That’s what is being offered at our IIE Annual Conference this year, May 17-21, 2003 at the Portland Hilton in Portland Oregon.  It is advisable for our members not to miss this opportunity, to learn from hands-on-experts in the field of productivity improvements and comprehensive cost reductions tools and techniques.

This is the time to interact with your like-minded colleagues, peers and world-class educators and also to get training in topics of your choice.  Inclusive in this conference are:

Ø Plant tours to Nike, Freightliner, U. P. S., and Columbia Sportswear.

Ø Pre-Conference workshops in Lean Office, Lean Enterprise, Six Sigma Concepts, etc.

Ø Research Track Sessions include Modeling and Simulation, Q.C.and Reliability, Engineering Management, etc.

Ø Solution Track sessions include Lean Concepts and applications, Management and Continuous Improvements, Simulation, Supply Chain management, etc.

For more details on the conference please log on to www.iienet.org/annual or call directly Ms Robyn Dowd all at 1-800-494-0460 ext 102.

If you are planning to attend the conference, please notify me by e-mail on our I.I.E. Detroit Chapter website www.iiedetroit.org or at TJHAMB@MSN.com, so that we can organize a Detroit Chapter get together in Portland on Monday May 20th evening.

Your Detroit Chapter provides a very valuable service to members in tri-county area by conducting plant tours, educational sessions and fun activities.  We would like to hear your thoughts, suggestions or recommendations in enhancing our chapter’s activities.

In closing I would like to welcome our new board member Mr. Chirag Modi.  Chirag will be our new Webmaster and E-mail VP. His expertise in this area will tremendously help our chapter in communications with our members.

Hoping to see you in Portland, Oregon.  Good day!!

          Tej
