President’s Message July 2008 Summer 2008Hello IIE members, I hope you have enjoyed the programs so far this year through the IIE Greater Detroit Chapter. We have had a very exciting 2008 so far and it will be even more eventful this upcoming Fall. To highlight some of the past events I would like to mention that the students from Wayne State who placed 2nd and 3rd at our Local Technical Paper Competition went on to place 1st and 2nd at the IIE Regional Technical Paper Competition and then on to compete nationally at the IIE Annual Conference! Congratulations again to the Wayne State University IIE Student chapter for your success! Our April joint program with APICS and May community service events were a success. Thank you to everyone that attended these programs. Looking ahead we have some great programs coming this Fall. If you recall my goal for the Greater Detroit Chapter is to strengthen our relationship with local student chapters. This will be helped by our 2nd annual IE Careers Symposium to be held at Wayne State University on September 27th. This program is open to all members and student chapters. Also, mark your calendars early as we have our 6th Annual Lean Six Sigma Symposium on October 31. At half way through the year we have had some fun through our programs and learned more about the expanding role of Industrial Engineers. I encourage you as the summer moves along to seek out a recent high school grad or college student and remind them about the IE profession and all that it has to offer. In the accelerating pace of our local economy IE's are some of the best suited to adapt and continue moving forward. I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming programs this Fall. As always, if you are interested in becoming more involved with IIE or have program ideas please feel free to contact me at president@iiedetroit.org.
