President's Message – August 2007

Greater Detroit Chapter of IIE #47

Hi everyone,

The summer is behind us and many of us have some great memories of wonderful places visited with friends and family. All of the cookouts and those baseball games watching the Detroit Tigers make their bid for another title hopefully! The international freedom festival with the great fireworks display always seems to kick start the summer fun. I almost forgot about the fun home improvement projects that have waited for us to tackle to get us ready for Monday night football in the fall. Well, the good times of sweat are behind us and soon the lawn mover’s thirst will be replaced with watching Saturday college football and Sunday football. School has started and the homework shuffle is upon those of us helping the little ones with their projects and successes.

The GDC is also planning some great activities for the membership to experience as we move into our fall schedule. Please reference the program highlights in this newsletter for more details of events, dates, times and locations. The GDC board is working with the local university IIE student chapters to get them involved in the upcoming student technical paper competition and a great opportunity to meet and discuss career opportunities at our Oct 13, 2007 program at Wayne State University. One of the National IIE officers Don Green will be attending the October program meeting to talk about IIE initiatives on the national level and meet with members and students. Our annual Six Sigma Lean Symposium will be held at William Beaumont in November. It is sure to be a great event and the chapter board appreciates the joint participation opportunity with all of those involved on the IIE board and the dedicated people at Beaumont for putting this event together. There is a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes to make this event seem so flawless and hats off to those involved in making this event a great success.

I am looking forward to the apple cider, warm donuts and pumpkin pie as well as the traditional fall color tours up north on those lazy Sundays with the family.

Best Regards to everyone.
