| The
Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD) held its annual Gold Awards
Banquet on Thursday, February 19th at the Rock Financial Showplace in
Novi. Several IIE members represented IIE-GDC at the event which also
included the Order of the Engineer Ceremony and a cocktail reception. IIE-GDC president Jeff VandenBoom presented the 2009
Distinguished Service award to Victor Lloyd. Victor has long
contributed to the IE profession and our local IIE chapter as a member,
officer, volunteer, and example in the community. Anyone who has met
Victor knows his passion for helping others as evidenced by his
countless hours volunteering to help others in need. Victor has
remained a visible figure in the local IIE chapter for many years,
always helping out when asked despite all of his other responsibilities
in life. He is a great example of community leadership and action.
Also
receiving an award was Vanda Ametlli from Wayne State. Vanda received
the 2009 Irv Otis Scholarship. Vanda's commitment to IIE and the IE
profession has been outstanding and we are proud to have her represent
IIE as the current president of the Wayne State chapter. Vanda has been
an integral role in maintaining her chapter's stability and growth. She
has involved herself in the planning of the 2009 Regional Conference at
Wayne State University and will be coordinating with other local IIE
chapters to make that event a success.
Thanks to both
Wayne State and Oakland University student chapters for sending a
representative to the banquet! For those of you who could not attend,
